Burberry introduces its new Gabardine Capsule, an entire collection built on its foundational fabric. This marks 170 years of the house’s history by returning to the material that started it all: the weather-resistant gabardine invented by Thomas Burberry in 1879.

The outerwear is made for purpose. Familiar shapes like parkas, quilted jackets, and bombers are recut in a brushed cotton nylon gabardine, dyed in hamper beige and juniper green. The campaign, shot in the wet and rugged landscape of Snowdonia, Wales, shows real explorers wearing them, highlighting their use beyond the city.

Beneath the gabardine shells, the collection offers soft layers. Chunky wool-cashmere knits, cotton hoodies, and relaxed pants provide warmth. Details quietly reference the archive, like gabardine panels on sleeves or the trench coat’s signature epaulettes. A special label, inspired by a 1993 campaign, is stitched inside many pieces. It reads: “Burberrys grew out of country life.”
