LOEWE FOUNDATION has opened Bunny, a solo exhibition by Talia Chetrit, at Museo Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid as part of PHotoESPAÑA. Curated by Stella Bottai, the show opened on 5 June and marks Chetrit’s first institutional solo exhibition in Spain, as well as the 15th year of the foundation’s partnership with the festival.

Chetrit was born in Washington in 1982 and is based in New York. Her work is known for being direct and disorienting, often in the same frame. Bunny brings together nearly three decades of image making, placing some of her earliest photographs, shot when she was still a teenager, alongside new works exhibited for the first time. Motifs recur: chains, breasts, bottles, bellies. Concerns around family, sexuality, and selfhood return, viewed through different temporal and spatial lenses.

The exhibition moves between registers of innocence, playfulness, and eroticism, shifting vantage points from close-up to distance, above and below. Works vary greatly in scale, from intimate prints like Boob Chair (Lygia Pape), 2021, to monumentally enlarged images like Ella/Plastic Bottle, 2026. Chetrit’s commitment to analogue photography across three decades creates a sense of cohesiveness, allowing images from different moments to sit together and recode each other through juxtaposition.

The show also engages with care and codependency in relation to birthing and personhood, seen in works like Milk on Back, 2020, and Untitled (Family no. 1). In Chetrit’s self-staging, motherhood is not a fixed identity but an expanded mode of being where mother, subject, and artist coexist.

PHotoESPAÑA 2026 is shaped around the curatorial concept of “Reimagining,” questioning accepted reality and authority through image making. This year’s edition pays particular attention to the relationship between fashion photography and the creative avant-garde, an intersection that runs through Chetrit’s practice, from her campaigns for LOEWE to works included in the exhibition such as Untitled (Model), 2024. The exhibition follows LOEWE FOUNDATION’s previous PHotoESPAÑA presentations, including Dora Maar in 2025 at the same venue.
