Javier Guijarro Fall/Winter 2026
by Anna Barr
Catalan designer Javier Guijarro presented his Fall/Winter 2026 collection at Paris Fashion Week. Known for his reinterpretations of classic men’s codes that border on eccentric. The Frazzled English woman was trending a few years ago on socials, and this collection feels like a spiritual cousin. Looks bordered on thrown together imperfections over polished glamour for a feel that is more charming. Sitting on the bench, I couldn’t help but make up who these people are. Are they Gen Z who prefer their own company, sip tea and journal? Because I definitely know the type, and then with no inhibitions end up being some of the most hedonistic lot out there. The fact that I keep thinking about it means that he isn’t someone who shocks but lingers.
The animated series Over the Garden Wall, whose fantastical forest journey reflects themes of development, adventure, and emotional change seen throughout the collection, also had an impact on the collection along with Hirokazu Kore-eda’s film Monster. Drawing on the influence of the forest, Guijarro noted ” the influence of the forest on the individual becomes the collection’s central metaphor — a place where identity exists outside judgment, shaped by instinct, intimacy and transformation.”
As someone who moved out of the city, and literally next to a forest, I have come to understand what it means to dress outside of judgement and I can say it can be very difficult and weird the moment that fashion week arrives when the individual that I have built and shaped now is expected to conform. Which is why designers like Guijarro are important especially to keep with their vision and let it transform with time. On the note of transformation Javier Guijarro reimagined iconic Chuck Taylor silhouettes with surprising materials and finishes proving that he can leave his reinterpretations on various pieces down to the low slung stockings.
