Nestled in the heart of Paris’s 5th arrondissement, the historic Collège des Bernardins provided the perfect backdrop for IM MEN’s Fall/Winter 2026/27 collection, FORMLESS FORM, an atmosphere defined by restraint and subtlety. Departing from the theatricality of previous shows, which often featured dancers and performance, this presentation relied on quiet poise and meticulous detail, allowing the clothing to take centre stage. The serenity of the venue, combined with a carefully curated soundtrack, emphasised the contemplative nature of the collection and the inherent elegance of the silhouettes.
Under its calm exterior, FORMLESS FORM is a study in the essence of formality. The collection asks whether a simple piece of fabric can convey a sense of propriety, and the answer unfolds through the garments themselves. Clay offers sculptural constructions that fuse flat surfaces with ribbed textures, contracting under heat to create silhouettes that are simultaneously structured and fluid. Dawn captures ephemeral light transitions, employing hand-dyed gradients that evoke the fleeting hues of morning and evening skies, while Overlap demonstrates versatility, transforming coats into ponchos through ingenious construction details.
Elegance is further explored in Gradation Wool, where individually dyed fabrics yield garments with unique tonal patterns, and Raft, whose padded outerwear combines volumetric form with functional warmth. Kasuri highlights the beauty of artisanal imperfection, juxtaposing multiple yarns and colour variations to produce textured, draping garments that retain a human touch. Meanwhile, Front Back and Selvedge Wool emphasise fluidity and versatility, allowing layering and styling that respond to both the wearer’s body and the environment.
Accessories seamlessly complement the collection. Leather Pleats bags merge structured forms with soft, flowing lines, while To Go reinterprets the familiar takeout cup in leather, a playful exploration of everyday formality and material transformation.
Experiencing the runway, each garment spoke of intention, restraint, and creative freedom. IM MEN has crafted a collection that is contemplative yet dynamic, subtle yet profoundly expressive. FORMLESS FORM does not seek immediate spectacle; it invites reflection, engagement, and the tactile experience of high-quality craftsmanship. Experiencing the collection was a reminder that elegance in menswear can be understated, deeply considered, and, ultimately, utterly compelling.
