HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE will present the second edition of Open Studio in London, in collaboration with Tate, introducing a capsule collection inspired by Henri Matisse’s The Snail. The presentation takes place on 16 September at Tate Modern, with the capsule available exclusively at the Tate Modern Terrace Shop and online from 17 September.

The design team was inspired by The Snail during a visit to Tate Modern last year. The vibrancy and movement of Matisse’s coloured paper cutouts echoed the brand’s own practice, leading to the creation of the capsule. The presentation will take place in the Tanks at the base of the Blavatnik Building, the vast cylindrical space once used for storing oil during its time as Bankside Power Station.

A contemporary dance ensemble has been invited to create a site-specific performance inspired by the making of The Snail, set against a scenography that unfolds through the evening. The one-night event continues the brand’s engagement with the performing arts and the dialogue between pleated clothing and dance.
