FUGAZZI Fragrances is the word by nose independent brand building a cult following among to a new generation of fragrance lovers. Founded in Amsterdam in 2018 by Bram Niessink, the name “Fugazzi,” borrowed from slang meaning something elusive or too good to be true. Its latest release, POMEGRANOUDH, taps into ripe fruit and smoky woods. At first spray, pomegranate bursts open with a ruby-red brightness, amplified by bergamot and red fruits. Then the scent deepens, revealing a darker core of oudh wood and patchouli before settling into a sensual base of vanilla, amber dry and musk.

I have always associated pomegranate with being some sort of aphrodisiac, although it is not proven, the belief in it is as old as ancient Persia, Egypt and Greece. Today, this kind of fragrance brings a touch of seduction to a crisp white shirt in the morning, as it does with city lights after midnight. It’s easy to wear in all occasions, making it a natural partner for oudh, one of perfumery’s most coveted materials. The resinous depth of oudh tempers the fruit’s brightness. In POMEGRANOUDH, the fruit never feels overly sweet, and the woods never become too dense.
