Fondazione Prada has opened the call for entries for the second edition of its Film Fund, the annual initiative launched in 2025 to support independent cinema. The fund amounts to €1.5 million and is aimed at works of high artistic value, continuing the foundation’s twenty-year commitment to investigating cinematographic practices and expanding its scope into the production processes of filmmaking.
Submissions will be accepted until 6 August 2026 for projects in the production phase and until 10 September 2026 for projects in development and post-production. The final selection will be announced in February 2027. The first call received over 1,200 submissions from around the world, with 14 projects selected. Those included works by directors Natalia Almada, Verena Paravel, Tatiana Huezo, Laura Citarella, Rubaiyat Hossain, Daria Martin, Yuri Ancarani, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Baloji, Levan Akin, Corneliu Porumboiu, Andrea Gatopoulos, Hlynur Pálmason, and Eduardo Williams, involving production companies across 26 countries on five continents.
Miuccia Prada, President and Director of Fondazione Prada, said the second edition reaffirms the foundation’s commitment to supporting filmmakers who pursue a free and demanding idea of cinema. “The first edition made it clear that it is necessary to contribute concretely, particularly to those who develop projects which stand out for their originality and willingness to experiment. Continuing to invest in research on contemporary cinema means contributing to the vibrancy of a language that is still essential to interpret the complexity of our present.”
Paolo Moretti, Head of the Film Fund, noted that the response to the first edition exceeded expectations. “The high volume of applications and the quality of the projects confirmed that independent cinema remains a vital field for research and creative freedom. The interest shown by the international film community inspires us to strengthen and further develop this initiative.”
The fund supports feature film projects in development, production, and post-production, with no restrictions of genre or geography. The financial contribution reaches up to €250,000 for each project, provided to the main production company as strategic support. Access is reserved for production companies that can demonstrate reliability in resource management. After a preliminary check, projects undergo two evaluation phases. An initial review is carried out by a group of consultants including Violeta Bava, Paolo Bertolin, Maria Bonsanti, Émilie Bujès, Michelle Carey, and others. The final evaluation is conducted by a selection committee composed of Miuccia Prada, Paolo Moretti, Chiara Costa, Rebecca De Pas, Giuliana Bruno, and Violeta Bava.
