Giorgio Armani has given control of the next Archivio chapter to Eli Russell Linnetz. The American artist, designer, and filmmaker handled both the photography and the styling. He worked with thirteen looks pulled from the Giorgio Armani collections between 1979 and 1994. The house reproduced them faithfully for this project.

Linnetz had this to say: “Mr. Armani is one of the greatest artists of our time. He changed the way we live our lives every day and what we aspire to become. These archivio pieces feel as alive today as the day they were made because he designed his work to be eternally impactful, deceivingly simple on the hanger, the clothes transform on the body, like magic. As a designer, to handle these garments and understand how they were made has been both a great education and a gift.

The campaign appears today in Milan. The timing lines up with Milan Design Week and the opening of a dedicated installation at the Giorgio Armani boutique on Via Sant’Andrea. Programming includes the New York-based podcast Throwing Fits, invitation-only talks with figures from collecting, archiving and museology, DJ sets, and workshops.

The thirteen reproduced looks will be available at Armani.com, in selected Giorgio Armani boutiques, at Apropos Berlin, Just One Eye Los Angeles, and Mytheresa.com. The story behind each look lives at archivio.armani.com.
