Michael Rider showed a confident third collection for the house of CELINE staged at the Institut de France during Paris Fashion Week. It was a playful parade with feathers throughout models’ messy tresses, trousers tucked in or slightly flared around the ankles, necklines that twisted and twirled, wearable pieces could easily mix match throughout the collection or in your own wardrobe with noted subtle touches of eccentricity. CELINE has always had strong accessories, from bags to sunglasses, but now they are really letting their scarves shine. As someone who has collected vintage CELINE scarves over the years, I’m looking forward to the future vintage.

This past decade has left us in irony-fatigue, and it was refreshing in the letter Rider wrote to accompany the collection, he stated “Confidence. Being upfront about it. Speaking about style without irony. Intuition over strategy. Feeling it rather than planning it.

His rejection toward the idea of concepts gives breath to mixing the old with the new, a space where we can allow something to be slightly off, imperfect, or eccentric. “I love when messy, complex, layered inner lives come through underneath great clothes. Thinking about people with style who wear beautiful clothes in a personal way. “ He continued in his letter, and I couldn’t agree more.
