Castaneda‘s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, Hybrarium, is a neologism, and that’s the point. The brand has always operated like a set of codes that don’t follow the norm, not out of cynical rebellion but as a way of communicating an authentic point of view. If fashion is a language, Castaneda makes up its own words.
Inspired by the desire to create an encyclopaedic collection of hybrid creatures, the collection is a metaphor for who we all are: genetic patchworks, all different, sharing the same planet. It’s about what connects us despite our differences. The show felt like a desperate attempt to imagine a paradise regained. The wardrobe is built from staple pieces revisited through the brand’s maximalist lens. A tailored jacket, trousers, a Bermuda short, a straight skirt, a pleated skirt, a T-shirt, a bomber jacket, a hoodie, a dress, a bustier, and of course Castaneda’s iconic headwear and matching tote bags. The silhouettes are recognisable, but they are embellished with layers of craftsmanship that set them apart.
Castaneda continues to develop its own manufacturing workshop, which allows for a hands-on approach that most designers limited by minimum order quantities can’t access. The brand mixes traditional tailoring, millinery, and French dressmaking with unexpected techniques borrowed from plush making and experimental embellishment. The colour palette draws from different subcultures: goth, geek, Lolita, punk. Not a single piece in the collection is one colour or one material. Even the smallest hats are made from five different base materials, further embellished with lace, digitally printed stickers, and 3D elements like four-eyed snails, butterflies, plushy mohawks, and vampire ears.
