Castaneda‘s new collection is called “Canis Improbus.” Latin for “nasty dog.” The image attached to it is a little punk French poodle, which tells you something about the thinking here. In a world full of violence, cuteness and kindness start to look like rebellion.

The collection leans hard on tailoring and millinery. These are classic categories, but they get pushed through the Castaneda universe. The brand has its own atelier in Paris, where every piece is designed and made. This season they wanted to sharpen what they can do with those two crafts.

Wool is the main material. It sculpts well, and sculpting is what tailoring asks for. Patch-worked plaids show up. Plaids decorated with a pattern of eyes. Pinstripes next to lys flowers and ribbons. Diamond patterns. Mix-matched tweeds. A crepe fabric covered in holes. Color and texture fill the room.

Tweed jackets and accessories get twisted into the brand’s language. Hats become French poodles. Pockets too. There is a new tote bag made to match the suits and headwear.
