Patricio Campillo presented his Spring/Summer 2027 collection, In Medias Res, in New York City. The Latin phrase describes a story that begins already in motion, and for SS27, the designer approaches that idea through nostalgia, not as longing for the past but as an instinct to preserve what is fleeting. The collection continues CAMPILLO‘s dialogue between Mexican identity, charro culture, craftsmanship, and contemporary fashion.

The work considers how memory transforms experience, leaving an impression rather than an exact record. That tension between preservation and transformation shaped the creative process, with fittings becoming a space for garments to evolve in real time through cutting, pinning, and draping. Unexpected gestures emerged: a shirt slipping from the shoulder, a jacket revealing another layer, fabric folding around the body. Rather than correcting these moments, Campillo preserved them, leaving garments suspended in transitional states.

Materiality carries the same conversation. Horsehair, long part of the brand’s vocabulary, is reinterpreted through new treatments, while fabrics respond to the body and change as they are worn. The collection also introduces a biologically derived polymer produced by bacteria, bringing a material born through a living process into dialogue with traditional craft. For the first time, Campillo extends into jewelry and accessories in silver and onyx, their permanence contrasting with the collection’s more transient gestures.
