Mattel has brought together Barbie and French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac for a new Barbie Signature collaboration, bringing his creative universe to the world of Barbie and Ken. Conceived under Mattel Creations, the platform for design-led collaborations, the partnership celebrates fashion, art, nostalgia, and pop culture through two collectible dolls inspired by some of Castelbajac’s signature pieces.

Barbie wears an oversized teddy bear coat adorned with miniature bears, paired with a high-neck T-shirt dress covered in Castelbajac-inspired illustrations and finished with denim boots. Ken takes a more minimalist approach in an oversized ivory teddy bear coat, styled with super-baggy dark denim, white sneakers, and a graphic T-shirt.

“Working with Barbie and Ken offered a unique opportunity to bring together two worlds built on imagination and creativity,” said Castelbajac. “By creating these powerful looks inspired by my career, I wanted to invite Barbie and Ken into my playful and colorful universe, to celebrate art and fashion.”

Castelbajac first rose to prominence in the late 1970s, and by 1987, when he unveiled his teddy bear coat, he had established a visual language defined by bold colour and a playful approach to fashion. The collaboration continues Mattel Creations’ work of positioning Mattel’s brands at the intersection of culture, design, and collectability, following releases with Miu Miu, Billie Eilish, MoMA, and Vexx.
