Le Labo has released a special edition of its CYPRÈS 21 candle. Titled CYPRÈS 21 Indigo, the candle is a tribute to the Japanese craft of indigo dyeing.

The brand partnered with a family workshop in Japan where the art of aizome has been practiced for five generations. The artisans dye cotton using fermented indigo in wooden casks that are decades old. This process creates unique gradients of color.

For this edition, the candle’s fragrance remains unchanged: a combination of cypress, juniper, clove, star anise, incense, and patchouli, designed to evoke a quiet retreat. The special aspect is its presentation. The candle comes in a deep blue vessel. Its box features a custom gradient label that mirrors the dyeing technique, honoring the craft and the artisans who preserve it.

As Deborah Royer, Global Brand President & Creative Director of Le Labo, notes, the project is a reflection of the brand’s commitment to artisanship as a living practice. The candle is available in select Le Labo boutiques and online.
