Any adult with young children will tell you that on Christmas morning it’s often the paper and packaging that gets more attention than the contents. Set Designer Zena May Hendrick aims to reference the same experience with this shoot for oki-ni, which looks at the “by-products of making” and how “what we discard is often more interesting than the actual thing”.

Consequently, this shoot is populated by discarded offcuts of wood, paint textures and empty frames – subsequently filled with festive gifts. The contrast between the luxury product and the rough-and-ready materials intends to heighten the impact of each.
