This Spring, Matthew Miller revisits his seminal graphic mantra, “Born to Fail,” in a limited edition capsule collection of hand-painted T-shirts, sweatshirts and an exclusive reincarnation of the designer’s now signature biker jacket.

Having originally featured the slogan on sweatshirts and jackets in his Fall/Winter 2013 collection, Miller worked alongside London based sign writer and typographic artist R Ventura to update and visually re- interpret it; injecting a new graphic energy to represent the youth of the generation that it refers to.

Although on the surface the words may appear to be gloomily defeatist, the message – and the context of its re-issue – is in fact more hopeful, emphasised by a subtle peace symbol hidden within the lettering.

We’re coming up to the general election and these words of a generation have never been more relevant. Over the next few weeks, a generation brought up to believe they are ‘born to fail’ have the opportunity to change the system, and therefore, their future. People often ask me to write articles about politics but I’m not a writer, I’m a designer and visual communicator. So this is my article – Article 15 – Politics Now.” – said Matthew Miller
