“Disruptive Disciples” is the 8th collection of 11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi, influenced by miliary and street gang references from all around the globe.
The military inspirational source is the “dazzle” camouflage pattern, consisting of complex disruptive geometric patterns in contrasting colours, interrupting and intersecting each other. Panel-printed artwork that modifies the way the pattern structure is perceived. A focus on optical effects is represented by a bold artwork applied with embroideries on full pannels.
Several gang references appear throughout the collection, focused on biker gangs and how they use symbols as a family bond. A common thread was found between collectives from all around the world, from the japanese Bosozoku speed tribes to the 70’s gangs in Chicago, the way they used typeface compositions made with patches and prints, representing strong brotherhoods. A type tee interpretation was introduced in this collection, a typographic composition applied on garments as prints, patches and embroideries. Another result is a cross symbol: a master cross, an emblem that stands for strength and unity.
